Description

Schefflera actinophylla, commonly known as the umbrella tree, is a vibrant evergreen tree native to Australia and New Guinea. This plant boasts large, glossy, palmately compound leaves that radiate outwards like the spokes of an umbrella, hence its common name. Its striking foliage adds a lush, tropical feel to any environment. In its natural habitat, mature plants may produce showy, red, flower spikes that are followed by small, dark fruits. The umbrella tree is adaptable to a variety of growing conditions, from full sun to partial shade, however, it thrives best in bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. While it can be grown indoors as a houseplant, be mindful of its potential size, reaching up to 15 meters in the wild. Pruning can help to control its size and encourage a bushier form. Watering should be done thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
