Thamnochortus cinereus
silver reed
Description
Thamnochortus cinereus, often called the Grey Thatching Reed, is a unique plant native to the Cape Floristic Region in South Africa. This species is characterized by its wiry, grayish-green stems, which give it a delicate appearance. It grows in dense clumps and can reach heights of up to 1.5 meters. Like other reed-like plants, it has an architectural form. It prefers full sun and well-drained, sandy soil, typical of the fynbos biome. While it is relatively low-maintenance, it does benefit from occasional watering. Propagation is typically done through seeds or division of established clumps.
