Description

Satyrium foliosum is a terrestrial orchid native to southern Africa. This orchid is distinguished by its erect stems, which are covered in numerous, fleshy leaves. The flowers are the highlight of this plant and appear in a dense cluster at the top of the stem. They are typically pink or red and feature two prominent, upward-curving spurs. It requires well-drained, sandy or loamy soil and prefers a cool environment with good air circulation. It benefits from a sunny or partially shaded spot. The plant is sensitive to overwatering and should be watered moderately. Propagation is typically done by dividing the tubers during the dormant season, or by seed.
