Description

Utricularia bisquamata is a unique carnivorous plant from the bladderwort family, native to Southern Africa. It is also known as the 'White Bladderwort' because of its delicate white to pale purple flowers. It grows in damp habitats like bogs and wetlands. This plant uses small bladder-like structures to trap tiny aquatic organisms, such as water fleas and other invertebrates. These traps work through a vacuum mechanism, snapping shut to ensnare prey. The foliage consists of thin, thread-like leaves that lie close to the soil surface. To cultivate Utricularia bisquamata, use a nutrient-poor, acidic substrate, such as sphagnum moss. You should also provide plenty of moisture and bright, indirect sunlight to encourage optimal growth.
