Description

Hoodia juttae is a succulent plant native to the arid regions of Namibia, known for its unusual appearance and supposed appetite-suppressing properties. It features thick, cylindrical stems that are segmented and often have small spines along their edges, giving it a cactus-like resemblance. The flowers, which appear infrequently, are a brownish-red and have a distinctive unpleasant odor, which attracts pollinating flies. Hoodia juttae thrives in well-draining, sandy soil and requires plenty of sunlight, making it well-suited for desert gardens or container cultivation. It is relatively drought-tolerant and needs infrequent watering. When growing this plant, consider providing excellent drainage, as root rot can be a problem. Be cautious of overwatering, particularly during the dormant winter months.
